Speaker 1Hello and welcome back to another episode of Mind Your Own Beeswax. My name is Grace, and how the hell are ya? I am having a really nice week. I've actually been really tired this week, and I think I'm putting it down to the fact that I have spent way too much time doom scrolling, specifically on TikTok. I just, I don't know why, I just get sucked in. I think I've been using the excuse now that I've got the pod, I need to post TikToks and Instagram, but that doesn't warrant like two hours of Doom scrolling. So I'm trying, I'm trying to break up with my phone. I went yesterday to my acupuncture appointment, and after the appointment, I felt totally wiped. I was so pooped. So I went across the road to this delicious little Vietnamese place and I got a salad, delicious Vietnamese salad, my favorite meal in the whole world. And I just sat there and I was like, don't look at your phone, Grace. Just sit here and eat your lunch and tell me why is it so hard to just sit and not be on your phone? It's so bad. Like on one hand, I like feel a bit like self-conscious, like I'm just sitting there by myself. Like, is that embarrassing? No, it shouldn't be. But on the other hand, like you don't know what to do with yourself. I'm like sort of watching around, people watching, watching the street. But like you really realize, like, God, without my phone, I don't know what to do with my hands. Um, so I'm gonna keep at it. I'm gonna keep being present, trying to spend less time on my phone. Um, and if you're thinking about taking yourself out for lunch, absolutely do it. It is just so nice and peaceful to be solo. There's no need to be embarrassed being solo. I'm gonna keep doing that. I thought today's episode can just be a little bit of a yarn. I can give you the 4-1-1 and tell you who the hell am I and what makes me think I could be a podcaster. Of course, we've got to go back. We've gotta go all the way back, back back, back it up to where I started. Now, if you've listened to my second episode, I got fired from my first job out of uni. I hit rock bottom, I could not get another job, and I ended up working in a warehouse steaming clothes for a couple of years. Absolute rock bottom, absolute nightmare. But I had to hit rock bottom to get where I am today. Now, when I was at this rock bottom place, it feels very ironic, but I found the book The Secret. And The Secret is an absolute OG banger of a self-development book. I feel like it was one of the very first ones. Like I remember back in the day, maybe like 2005, 2006, good old Oprah had The Secret on her show, and that's where it really all started. So The Secret is a massively viral book, it's very much old school personal development self-help reading. I highly recommend you read it. But I picked up this book and it very much appealed to me because it's a really nice format. So back in this day, I was not a massive reader like I am now, and it appealed to me because the secret is laid out in like really short paragraphs. So you might get a paragraph and then a quote and then another paragraph, and it's very short and sharp, so you could read one page and really get a good message out of it. And then the book as a whole is not very big either. It doesn't take you long to read. This was great for me because at the time I was not a big reader and I just absolutely gobbled up the secret. Now, the secret, if you want to know what the secret is, it's the law of attraction. What is the law of attraction? Well, it basically means like attracts like. So if you think positive thoughts, you're gonna attract positive things. If you think negative thoughts, you're gonna attract negative things. Likewise, with things you say and things you do, like will attract like. And I really liked that, and it made me realize at the time, ooh, I have been living in a low vibe, negative vibes, saying, talking absolute shit, complaining about my life. No wonder I'm not getting anywhere. Like attracts like, and I was putting out bad vibes and they were coming right back. The second thing in the secret that really connected with me was the perspective on gratitude. And gratitude was not something that I had vibed with at this point. But the book basically talks about how if you are not grateful for what you've got, you won't get anything more. And you sort of think about the universe as a person, if you're not grateful what they've already given you, they are not going to give you more. And so basically, the law of attraction, like attracts like, and being grateful for what you have so that you can attract more things into your life. Those were the two things for me that I was like, wow, wake up, call, Grace, you're being a negative Nancy. And so I started practicing the law of attraction. I changed how I spoke, I said positive things, I really tried to change my thoughts, I practiced gratitude. Now, from there, my self-development journey just snowballed. I was gobbling up books, I'd started listening to podcasts, I was really just learning and diving deep into the world of self-help. And I read so many amazing books and podcasts, but particularly I liked the podcast Manifestation Babe, and I really liked Georgie Stevenson's podcast Rise and Conquer. And I often found that I enjoyed the content, but I really could not connect with their extravagant manifestations. So as I was listening to these podcasts, I was very much into manifesting, and I thought I really wanted to give manifesting a go. And both of these podcasts, they share great manifesting tips and tools. However, they are just so extravagant. Both of them would talk about manifesting seven-figured businesses, manifesting a Porsche, manifesting, you know, a five-star holiday, flying first class, just really extravagant things. And little old me at the time, I was working full-time, but I was on just a minimum wage. I didn't see how I could manifest those things. Like, obviously, you know, believe in yourself, anything can happen. I could win the lotto, who knows? But like being realistic, I just didn't feel like I could manifest a million dollars or a Porsche at that time. So I just was like, ugh, there's no, there was no content out there that was like realistic. Like no one was saying, hey, this is how you manifest 20 bucks, this is how you manifest a free coffee. So that sort of sat in the back of my mind. But I thought to myself, I'm gonna have a crack. So I practiced the manifesting techniques and I did all the things that they said on their podcasts. I also at the time read this book, Get Rich Lucky Bitch. Um, I love that title, but it was a book about manifesting money. So I was listening to these podcasts, reading this book, and I was like, right, I'm just gonna have a go. And so for probably like a solid two weeks, I really did the money manifesting work. And you won't bloody believe it, but within two weeks, $600 was deposited into my account. $600. And that was more than I was owning a week at that point. So I was absolutely rapped and I just was like shouting from the rooftops. I was like, guys, manifesting works. I have just manifested $600. I then found a $10 note on the side of the road, which is crazy because I feel like we live in a cashless society. So finding $10, unbelievable. And then after I found my $10, I actually went into a like Mexican burrito store. And what do you bloody know? They had $5 burritos that day. So I ordered two burritos, and what did I pay with? The $10 note I found. So, girl math, that was free. How bloody good. And then later on that week, um, two people bought me a coffee. So, like two separate occasions, but two people bought me coffees. And I really realized I was like, hang on, this is that manifesting. I was putting it out into the universe that I was gonna manifest, I wanted to manifest things, I was open to receiving. I got $600. I found $10, slash got two free burritos, and I got two free coffees. And when I had that awareness, I was like, this is what I'm talking about. This is the manifesting that feels good to me. I didn't feel like I could manifest a Porsche. I didn't feel like I could manifest a seven-figure business. Those things in my current state and my current place in life, that was not gonna happen. And that's not me being a Debbie Downer. You know, if you work a nine to five and you're earning a couple hundred bucks per week, you ain't going out buying a Porsche. You're not traveling to the bloody maldives first class. Let's be realistic. Those things can happen, yes, but you've got to do more than just working a nine to five earning minimum wage. And so this just like lit a fire in my brain. I was like, yes, I can manifest. Why is nobody talking about manifesting things in a realistic way for the everyday person? So this kind of like really just like got me thinking, and I was like, there's gotta be like something to it. And I remember at the time I was like, should I should I write a book on this? Like, should I write a book about manifesting $600 and a free coffee and a free burrito? And I just kind of like marinated on it. Now, kind of at the same time as this was all happening, that I was really in the flow was that I got a new job, and in this job, I was given the opportunity to present a lot more, and I really figured out that I loved speaking to people. I loved public speaking, I loved presenting. It just lit a fire within me and I really enjoyed it. And I kind of think on a deeper level, I really get a lot out of speaking and presenting, is because I think I was a very shy child, and I feel like in a way it's like healing. Like for the first time in my life, people wanted to hear what I had to say. People were engaging with what I said, and I just was so grateful. Like when people listened to me, I just felt it in my heart, like it just was so nice. So I kind of had these two things. I found my love for speaking, I found my love for talking to people, and I sort of had connected with this gap in the market of why are people not talking about manifesting at a smaller scale? Now, at this point, it was 2024, and I have this note in my phone where I wrote down, should I start a podcast? And I was just on a walk, I can like remember the place I was on the walk, and I was like, oh, I'm gonna write this in my phone so one day I can look back. So 2024, that is when I had my first idea. And honestly, I've just like thought about it every single day since I think mid-2025. I just like was consumed by the thought, and I just was like, I've got to do this podcast. I have this idea, things would happen in life, and I'm like, see, see, this would be such good podcast content. And I would tell people things that I'd manifested or that I'd done, and people are like, wow, that's great. Um, I don't know if anybody actually cared, but I cared. I was so excited and passionate about it. So I thought, nah, let's do it. And I told myself, I said, if I can write 52 episode ideas, I'm gonna do it. Because I didn't want to start a podcast and then just like do one episode and then, you know, it just fell over. I wanted to make sure that I could stick with it. So I bloody wrote 52 episode ideas, and some of them are red hot. Some of them I've already even done. But the 52 episodes, it gave me confidence to do the podcast. And basically, the rest is history. And here we are. Now, what made me call this podcast Mind Your Own Beeswax? Do you think this is a random title? I love it. I'm so obsessed with it, and it just is specifically my sense of humour. So mind your own beeswax is a bit of like a pun on the phrase mind your own business. And I really liked this because that's what I'm doing. I'm minding my own business, I'm working on myself, and that's what I want my listeners to be doing. Working on themselves, staying in their lane. Don't worry about what other people are doing, don't worry about what other people are saying. Mind your own business slash mind your own beeswax. Now, again, if you're in Australia, hopefully you've heard of the show Kath and Kim, which is a big part of my personality. I love Kath and Kim. I am Kath, I am Kim, I am Prue, I am true, I am Sharon. All those characters are like deeply etched into my soul. I absolutely love them. And there's a scene in Kath and Kim where Kath and Kim are having a bit of a fight, and Kath says to Kim, You know your beeswax, Kim, why don't you bond it? A lot of the quotes from that show just live rent-free in my brain. And I just was like thinking about it, I was like, mind your own beeswax. Like, I like the message of minding your own business. I like Kath and Kim. It's a great phrase from Kath and Kim. And that's me. Like, I'm here to give my self-help, my spiritual guidance, but I've got a sense of humor, and I don't want to take myself too seriously. And maybe low-key, I am a little bit bogan like Kath and Kim. I love Kath and Kim. Like Kim is just such a bitch, but it is so funny. And I feel like I can channel Kim sometimes. And likewise, Kath, I love Kath. She's just like a go-getter. She's a bit of a spiritual queen. She's done every TAFE course, you know, she's done the course, of course. I love it. I just like love the two of them. So my passion for Kath and Kim is secretly etched in the title of this podcast, Mind Your Own Beeswax. If you've got any feedback on the title, let me know. But I love it. I think Mind Your Own Beeswax, it just feels really authentic to me. And that's what I want this podcast to be is just me speaking my truth, being authentic, because that's all I can offer the world. You know, there's a lot of these podcasts out there, there's a lot of books. You know, opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one, everyone's given their opinion online. All I can do is give mine, and hopefully you like what I've got to say. Now that's it. That is all I have to say today. It was a bit of a brain dump, a bit of a yarn, but hopefully it gives you some context on who the hell I am and what the hell I'm doing here. I have so many podcasts that I'm excited to bring you. I will definitely do a podcast on the secret. I will definitely do a podcast on what is manifesting. Stick with it, join me on this journey, and let's change our lives together. Thank you so much for being here with me. I hope this podcast finds you at a time that you need it the most. And as always, love you bye.
